2019 Lips 'N Sync all done

AWESOME !

Well, wasn't that a doozy! This annual event just keeps getting better thanks to the awesome support of the local community with their donations of meals and incredible acts.
It was great to see so many new faces attend and the response was incredibly positive!  Bigger 'n better next year? Absolutely but only with your help!

Toni and Jenny !

The crowd staring to form !

Plenty more photos of the evening here

The fantastic acts!

You can follow the links through to the original film clips and see how the local acts do a WAY better job than the originals!

Up first were Trevor and Toni delivering a captivating performance of  Paul Simon's Call me Al

a whole bunch of locals involved in a montage of a mega version of Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite from The Rock Horror Picture Show.

I am not sure who was impersonating who here,  Bob doing the reprobate Sir Les Patterson or Sir Les Patterson doing Bob, while singing Lilly the Pink... I will let more astute audience members decide.

The effervescent Fiona doing her take on a parody of the Ed Sheran - Smell of You, Smell of Poo

and a wonderful finale from Amerotta covering Amy Winehouse's - Rehab  with her back up dancers, Jackson and Rachael.

Financially

The Nymboida Hall Committee convened a quick meeting and decided not to charge us the fee for hall usage ,which was wonderful of them. After paying other incidentals etc we ended up raising $1106.90. We also recieved $90 extra in donations before the event from generous locals, which was unexpected but very much appreciated.

A big, big thanks to everyone who donated meals, performed on the night and everyone who attended.

Also, just a note, we are not a charity. We are raising these funds to donate to registered charities (Good Will and  C.H.O.I.C.E) in Cambodia.  Why those ? because we spent a lot of time when we lived in Cambodia making sure these guys were the real deal and they are !

The fantastic acts!

You can follow the links through to the original filmclips and see how the local acts do a WAY better job than the originals!

The first act was really special, all the way from Cambodia, the kids of the Goodwill Centre put on a wonderful spectacle for us, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated.

Unfortunately in the confusion, I missed Wendy doing Roy Orbison's - Only the Lonely

Up next were the ever effervescent Aliah, Miwah & a tiger - Katy Perry - Roar

Toni, imploring the crowd to donate did  Money - Flying Lizards

Nina, Laena and Jenny clowning it up doing Chers- The Shoop Shoop song

and then a real crowd favorite and first time performers, Bonnie and family performing Queen - I want to Break Free

and the wonderfully talented and ever theatrical Phil & Rick doing an Elvis number !

and finally, after much cajoling, Trevor & Toni doing Tight Fit's - The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Thinking Caps for acts

So put  your thinking caps on and start thinking about what act YOU are going to put in next year to make the event even better!

Volunteers to Help Out

As its getting a bit too much for us to try and do everything, minor mistakes are being made in the mad rush to do it all (not getting to record the acts properly, etc). We really need volunteers next year to handle: door greeter, raffle ticket sales and someone to press the play button occasionally. If you would like to help out, we'd love to hear from you and we'll let you know what's expected.

Financially

After paying for hall rental and advertising, we ended up raising $937.80. We had $125 in donations from generous locals and people who couldn't make it on the night because of other commitments, which was unexpected but very much appreciated.

A big, big thanks to everyone who donated meals, performed on the night and everyone who attended.

Also, just a note, we are not a charity, we are raising these funds to donate to registered charities (Good Will, C.H.O.I.C.E and C.O.L.T) in Cambodia.  Why those ? becasue we spent a lot of time when we lived in Cambodia making sure these guys were the real deal and they are !

2017 Lips 'n Sync all over !

Another great night of entertainment in very soggy conditions. Unfortunately many locals from across the Clarence Valley either couldn't get out, or sensibly turned back due to the flooding.... so the numbers were down but as they say, the show must go on.

Stage being set up

Hall starting to fill up on a very rainy night

Awesome buffet of delectable dishes prepared by local cooks !

Enjoying dinner !

As everyone probably knows by now, this event is held to raise funds for various charities and projects we support in Cambodia. You can read about those by going back through this blog. The way the evening works is that locals donate some wonderful meals and their time to entertain the masses by lip syncing to a favourite tune.  We play the tunes through the night on the big screen before the local stars start.

Youtube links to the original songs are below, along with links to the performances put on by the locals

Trevor and Toni performing  Promises - Baby it's You

Miwah and Aliah chose Madonna - Lucky Star

(unfortunately for copyright reasons, Youtube removed this link so it's on Vimeo here)

Bob Warner doing  Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel - Come up and See me, make me Smile

Wendy Birch, Aliah, Miwah and Shiann  ABBA - Dancing Queen

Merrell, Jenny and Laena doing  Donnalou Stevens - Older Ladies

Toni, Anni, Laena, Annie & Trevor doing  Gwen Stefani -  Hollaback Girl

We also had a surprise soliloquy from Andrew Robinson.

Financially

After paying for raffle prizes and hall rental, we ended up raising $729.30. We had $200 in donations from some of the people who couldn't make it on the night because of the rain, which was unexpected but appreciated.

Hopefully everyone had an awesome night and we hope to see you next year. The event just keeps getting bigger and better each year with this one being the third so far !

Big big thanks to everyone who donated meals, performed on the night and everyone who attended.

Lips 'n Sync a huge success

We were quite nervous before the event, as usual. We worry about getting the number of people required to make the effort of running the event worthwhile, whether we'll have enough food and if people will enjoy the evening. In hindsight we could have saved ourselves the concern because the night was such a fantastic success.

Lips 'n Sync

The acts for this year were:
  • Meatloaf's 'Paradise by the Dashboard light', Trevor and Toni
  • Tiny Tim by Bob Warner, tip toeing so gracefully,
Bob tiptoeing gracefully !

  • Our very own twisted Laena covering Joni Mitchell's Twisted

The effervescent Laena !

  • And the fabulous Rick and Phil as the equally fabulous Sonny and Cher.

Phil (l) and Rick (r)

of the wonderful and hilarious acts

Dinner

As usual the buffet was delicious and plentiful.  Supplied by members of the local Nymboida Community

and a huge thank you to everyone who donated meals, all of the awesome acts and everyone who attended. Without your support we can't continue our projects in Cambodia. You are all such wonderfully generous people and we are proud to be a part of this community.

Enjoying the show !

Next Year

Start thinking about acts you might like to put in next year, it would be good to build on the numbers so let's get those thinking caps out of the back of the closet, dusted off, and firmly seated on your heads !
